The last few days of Summer....

Angela Soule

We've had a busy summer attending around 10 events throughout Ontario between competitions and community parades.  This year, marking Canada's 150th, we were honoured to be a part of both Aurora  and Bradford's Canada Day celebrations.  It's through these parades and local events that we get to see all of our supporters and enjoy the festivities alongside our neighbours.   This summer we held our first annual Barrie Pipes & Drums Awards Night for our members and their families.  A fun evening of recognition, food and music over a bonfire held at Barry and Sandi Gougeon's, Ravenwood.

We've enjoyed the last few weeks off as our own summer break, but we are excited to kick back into high gear for the new season.  We are looking forward to the lucky winner of 101.1 BIG FM's Wake Up Call contest, where we will surprise one lucky student on the first day of school and help them wake up for the big day with a mini concert.  Our first practice back as a group will be September 18th and we have a few new eager students that will be starting up with us as well!  If you are interested in more information on our free, weekly, bagpipe and drumming lessons, we will be having an Open House, Monday, September 25th.  Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for more information.

We hope everyone had a great summer and if we didn't see you at one of our events, we hope to see you soon!

2017 competition season has begun!

It seems like not that long ago myself, and our Pipe Sgt were sitting in Reay Mackay's sun porch picking tunes for our new medley.  In the span of three hours the medley was picked, and we have been working on it since the fall.  Our pipers & drummers have been attending two practices per week, and hope to put on their best performance of the season this Saturday at the Cobourg Highland Games.

On a parade band note, we have had the honour participating in the recent Vimy, and D-Day services, hosted by our good friends at the Barrie Legion.  We also led the survivors lap at the Barrie Relay for Life, another community event we are proud to be a part of.  We will also be participating in the Aurora, and Bradford Canada Day Parades on July 1st.

A new home for the pipe band!

First off, Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all of our members, and supporters!  Without all of you Barrie Pipes & Drums would not be the success it is today!

As most of you know the band has been looking for a new practice space since the beginning of December.  I want to thank everyone that contacted us with possible locations.  Beginning January 9th we will be holding our regular Monday night practices at the Sheba Shrine Club, located at 142 John St. Barrie.  This space is an excellent fit for our band, and we thank the Shrine Club for their very generous donation of this space to the band.

On another note, the band will be holding our annual Robbie Burns Dinner on January 28th!  This is an evening filled with music, dance, great food, and great people!  The proceeds of this dinner go a long way to keeping Barrie Pipes & Drums looking, and sounding like the pipe band you have all come to love!  If you have never experienced a Burns Supper, this is the year to do it!  Please follow this link for more info. http://www.barriepipesanddrums.com/robbie-burns-dinner/

Cheers,

PM Pete
